Who we are

Our beginning

Phebe Children was founded by Dr. Sandra Pineda de Forsberg, who brings together her academic expertise in peace education, conflict management and negotiation coaching, and international development work for the benefit of children in impoverished and violent environments.

“The idea of an NGO Phebe Children was born when I was in the Sudan during the time of the Darfur War in 2004. Back then I had already seen the realities in Palestine, Israel, South Africa. I have also heard first hand from native Rwanda friends and of course in my native Colombia life was not different deeply tainted by violence. These countries all have in common suffering from violent internal conflicts for at least 40 years. When confronted with these difficult situations I thought about the children and realized that there is targeted work we can do to contribute to promoting the development of more humane and peaceful conditions for the next generation.”

Our mission

To teach peace rooted in self-respect and respect for the other, to educate values and competencies that promote healthy relationships based in truth, justice, love, interdependence, and human development

Our vision

That every child has the right to live peacefully, to be respected and protected, to feel loved, and to develop holistically. We envision children learning to develop healthy relationships enacting peace behaviours as they relate to the other, being empowered to manage conflicts in a negotiated manner with others and hence being transformed into citizens who can build sustainable peace grounded in the experience and understanding of God’s love themselves and the other.

Our values

Love and compassion

We are committed to treat each other, the children and people we serve, with love and compassion. These values are based in Judeo-Christian though -to love God and our neighbour as ourselves.

Faith

We believe that we are created in the image of God and that human life is sacred and must be protected, helped and strengthened in any possible way.

Hope

We are instruments of hope. We believe in the people we serve, and through our work we bring hope to communities and particularly to the children.

Service

We believe that service is an honor. We serve with humility and dignity, regardless of the type of help we provide and the group of people we serve.

Courage

We courageously guard the rights of the helpless and are a voice to those who are rejected even when it’s difficult. With courage we achieve what is believed unachievable for the sake of children’s wellbeing.

A native Colombian, Sandra founded Phebe Children and has extensive experience working over 15 years internationally and interculturally with various NGOs promoting social development, as well as managing public affairs, public relations and communications projects. Sandra has a PhD in Peace Education from Zurich University, Switzerland.

Henrik Forsberg

Henrik is Swedish and has performed biomedical research in Sweden and England followed by many years in the pharmaceutical industry in Switzerland and since 2023 also in Sweden where he is now living with his wife Sandra.

Juan Ruiz

Juan was born and raised in the exotic valleys of Colombia. He is a passionate pilot and a designer with many years of experience, and has been blessed with the opportunity of living and working in Colombia, the USA, England and now in Switzerland.
